Wait...there's something besides running?!
Yep. Call it cross-training.
I haven't started my marathon training yet and still haven't really ran outside. It's cold. I'm a wuss. Anything below freezing and I'm inside!
So cross-training has been my life for 3 months now.
My favorite cardio/full body workout?
STEPMILL.
Use it. Love it.
Routine:
5 min slow pace warmup
5 min faster pace forward facing, don't grab the railing!!!
5 min right side-step. Use railing to keep torso twisted.
5 min left side-step.
5 min walk backwards. Practice not using railing.
5 min forward facing
5 min forward lunges also don't hold railing.
5 min backwards
5 min backwards lunges. Use railing.
5 min slow pace for cool down.
I see most people using the stepmill WRONG! They are hunched over the railing at a very fast pace. This is bad for your core!! And your arms are doing some of the work so you're not fully working out your legs! Yes, you can go at a much faster pace, but you are cheating yourself!
The stepmill can be a full body workout when you practice not using the rails and tightening your core.
I have added something NEW!
I follow this amazing girl Kayla Itsines on Instagram and her workouts are amazing! She is fast and strong!
She came out with a Bikini Body workbook (which I cringed at the title...I just hate labels like that) and it's all HIT workouts geared towards problem issues for women.
A picture of Kayla and a sample workout.
I just started this and it's intense!! Remember I've done Body Building workouts and this is similar but less heavy-lifting.
It is a WORK OUT! I did day 1 of legs and cardio and it's Thursday and I'm still so sore! These aren't easy-peasy by any means.
I'm excited to do this for the whole 3 months and I'll let you know how it goes!
