During these 6 weeks up the EWEB Run to Stay Warm Half Marathon I had really reached out to other runners and a running group to help get in more miles and get faster, and I did!!! I was doing long runs with a group every sunday and that helped so, so much plus I met every week with a faster runner to help me with my speed. I have improved so much. I broke away from that 10 min mile pace I have been stuck at and was getting an even 9:30 pace which is what I really wanted.
I knew from these splits that this Half would be my PR, I would beat my previous time of 2:11 Half finish! I honestly thought I would get very close to an eve 2 hour finish which is my goal.
Come race day and I tanked. 11:53 mile?! That's not what my training has been at all. I couldn't believe it. I did 11 miles 2 weeks before the race and the "slowest" pace was about 10:20.
How do you come out of this? How can training fail you like this?! I wanted to PR with all my heart, it meant so much to me I couldn't believe the disappointment. Stomach issues aside how can this happen?!
It still leaves my goal out there of getting to a 2:00 half finish time but I just knew I would get close. BUT I guess that's running, I guess that's being human. I just wished it didn't happen today of all days.
